What is Light Iron / Sheet?

Common scrap sources: steel wheel rim (passenger), chain link fence fabric (4 ft tall), steel file cabinet (4-drawer), propane tank, 100 lb (residential), propane tank, 20 lb (bbq size), steel patio furniture (piece), water heater (40-50 gal), and electric dryer.

Prep guidance for items that contain Light Iron / Sheet:

Steel Wheel Rim (Passenger): Remove the tire (most yards charge a fee or refuse rims with tires still mounted) and pry off any stick-on or clip-on lead wheel weights. Pull the rubber valve stem. Sell with other light iron in a single load to minimize trips and weighing fees.
Chain Link Fence Fabric (4 ft tall): Roll the fabric up tightly for transport — loose fabric takes up disproportionate truck space. Posts and rails go in the same load: no rate difference between fabric and pipe at light iron. If the fence has aluminum privacy slats woven through the mesh, separate those for the higher aluminum rate.
Steel File Cabinet (4-Drawer): Empty all drawers and remove plastic drawer pulls and label holders. Lay flat in the truck bed for transport — these are awkward and tippy when standing upright. Multiple cabinets fill a pickup quickly and minimize trip count for an office cleanout.
Propane Tank, 100 lb (Residential): Open the valve and let the cylinder vent outdoors for 24+ hours before transport. Most yards require the brass service valve removed entirely (pipe wrench, follow tank-purging procedure). Call ahead — yards have specific propane policies and a few may charge a per-tank disposal fee instead of paying.
